St. Anthony, Idaho
St. Anthony floors and the dune sand that scours them
St. Anthony sits on the Henrys Fork and has been the Fremont County seat since the county formed in 1893. The founder staked his home at the corner of Main and Bridge streets around 1890, and the town grew from there, with the railroad arriving in 1899. The housing runs from those early-1900s homes near the old Bridge Street core to mid-century and newer places out toward the highways. But the detail that sets flooring here apart is not the age of the homes, it is what blows in and gets tracked from the west. The St. Anthony Sand Dunes, the largest in Idaho, stretch for miles just outside town. That means households here carry very fine, hard quartz sand indoors on boots, gear and pets after every outing. Sand that fine behaves like loose grit on a sanding screen. Walked across a finished floor day after day, it abrades the topcoat at entries and traffic lanes, dulling and scratching the finish long before the wood itself is worn. The fix is maintenance, not replacement. On a floor whose finish is scuffed but whose wood is sound, a screen and recoat lays a fresh wear layer over the old one in a day or two, far cheaper than a full sand. We set owners up on a recoat rhythm that matches how hard the dunes are used, and save full refinishing for floors that have actually worn through.
On the ground
Bridge Street, the Henrys Fork and dune country
St. Anthony straddles the Henrys Fork where US-20 passes through, though locals know Bridge Street, not Main, as the old heart of town; Falls Drug and its soda fountain still anchor it. The river, the falls the town is named for, and the canal that pulled irrigation water from the Henrys Fork all shaped the early layout. West of town the sand dunes dominate, and that recreation is the thread through our work here. Most St. Anthony calls are maintenance and refinishing rather than new installs: screen-and-recoat on floors dulled by dune sand, full sanding where a finish has finally worn through, and board repairs at entries that caught the worst of the grit and the winter wet. We also fit waterproof LVP in mudrooms where gear and snowmelt pile up, and lay hardwood or engineered plank in remodels. St. Anthony is a solid trip from our base, so we measure, read moisture and leave a written quote on the first visit to keep the job moving.

“Wood Flooring Idaho just finished our floors and they are beautiful! We had oak in the kitchen and wanted it extended into the dining room — their answer was “No Problem.” You absolutely cannot tell where they joined the new flooring with the old. They removed our tile entryway and replaced it with oak. Tyler is professional, particular and hardworking.”

FAQ
St. Anthony flooring questions
Why does my St. Anthony floor finish wear out so fast?
It is the dune sand. The St. Anthony Sand Dunes send very fine quartz grit home on boots and gear, and it acts like a sanding screen underfoot. That dulls and scratches the finish at entries and walkways long before the wood itself wears. A regular screen-and-recoat keeps ahead of it. Call (844) 954-6342.
What is the difference between a recoat and a full refinish?
A recoat abrades just the old finish and lays a fresh topcoat over it, with no bare-wood sanding, usually done in a day or two. A full refinish sands down to raw wood to remove deep scratches and worn-through areas, then rebuilds the finish. For dune-dulled St. Anthony floors with sound wood, a recoat is usually enough and far cheaper.
