Bingham County, Idaho

Blackfoot farmhouses, acreage homes and failed decking

Bingham County grows a fifth of Idaho's potatoes, and its housing is spread across the farms that do it. Alongside the older homes in Blackfoot, Shelley and Firth, you find manufactured and modular homes set on acreage all over the county. Those homes share a weak point we run into constantly: particleboard floor decking. One slow leak under a dishwasher, water heater or bath swells it into soft, crumbling mush. No new floor sits flat on that. On many Bingham County jobs, the real work is under the old flooring. We cut out blown decking and screw down sound plywood before a single new board goes in. Skip that step and the new floor telegraphs every soft spot within a year. Older farmhouses bring the opposite problem. Many hide fir or oak under layers of carpet and sheet vinyl, and those floors are often worth uncovering and refinishing rather than replacing. The Snake River runs through the county and the water table sits high near it. Crawlspaces stay damp, so we moisture-test before committing to solid wood. Where a slab or questionable subfloor rules out nail-down hardwood, waterproof LVP or engineered plank is the safer call. We say which one fits once we've measured and read moisture, never before.

On the ground

Potato-country jobs from Blackfoot to Aberdeen

Blackfoot is the county seat, home of the Idaho Potato Museum in the 1913 Oregon Short Line depot and the Eastern Idaho State Fair each September. The county was founded on the railroad in 1878 at the northern edge of the Fort Hall Reservation, and much of that reservation still lies within its bounds. Interstate 15, US-91 and US-26 thread the towns together, with Shelley, Firth, Moreland and Aberdeen strung along the farm roads. Downtown Blackfoot and Shelley have older bungalows and brick homes with original wood worth refinishing, provided the boards still have thickness above the tongue. Out on the acreage, the typical call is a manufactured or farm home where a leak has ruined the decking, so subfloor repair comes first. Near Aberdeen and American Falls Reservoir, summer lake trips drag sand and water indoors, which points toward waterproof LVP in entries. We moisture-test every crawlspace and slab, check wear layers before sanding, and put each quote in writing after measuring on site rather than over the phone.

What we do here

Flooring services in Bingham County

Water-Damaged Floor Repair

Slow leaks under dishwashers and water heaters rot the particleboard decking common in Bingham County homes; we dry it out, replace the decking and rebuild the floor.

Details

Hardwood Floor Repair

We swap damaged boards, re-secure squeaky subfloors and close dry-season gaps in Blackfoot and Shelley homes, matching repairs into the existing finish instead of replacing the room.

Details

LVP & LVT Flooring

Waterproof LVP suits Aberdeen lake homes and busy farmhouse entries, shrugging off tracked-in sand, water and boot traffic over a properly flattened subfloor.

Details

Wood Flooring Installation

New solid or engineered hardwood for Bingham County remodels, installed only after we've replaced any failed decking and moisture-tested the crawlspace or slab below.

Details

Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Dust-contained sanding revives original fir and oak in downtown Blackfoot and Shelley bungalows, once we confirm enough wood remains above the tongue to sand.

Details

Cupped & Buckled Repair

Damp crawlspaces near the Snake River cup and buckle boards; we find the moisture source, dry the floor, then flatten or replace the affected sections.

Details

Fast Move-In Flooring

Buying a Blackfoot-area farmhouse? We replace tired carpet and vinyl and fix the subfloor before you move in, while the rooms are still empty and easy to work.

Details

Engineered Hardwood

Engineered plank handles the damp slabs and crawlspaces of rural Bingham County better than solid wood, staying flat where moisture would otherwise cup a nailed floor.

“Wood Flooring Idaho just finished our floors and they are beautiful! We had oak in the kitchen and wanted it extended into the dining room — their answer was “No Problem.” You absolutely cannot tell where they joined the new flooring with the old. They removed our tile entryway and replaced it with oak. Tyler is professional, particular and hardworking.”

FAQ

Bingham County flooring questions

The floor in our manufactured home feels soft and spongy — what's wrong?

That's almost always the particleboard decking giving out. A slow leak or years of humidity swells it until it crumbles and flexes underfoot. There's no finish or new plank that fixes a bad substrate, so we cut out the ruined decking, screw down solid plywood, then install your new floor on a base that stays flat.

Can the old floor under our Blackfoot farmhouse carpet be saved?

Often, yes. Many older Blackfoot and Shelley homes have fir or oak hiding under carpet and vinyl. We lift a corner to check the species and how much wood sits above the tongue. If there's enough to sand, refinishing usually beats replacement — call (844) 954-6342 and we'll take a look.

Do you work on homes out on the Fort Hall and Aberdeen farms?

Yes. We cover the whole county from our Idaho Falls base, about 30 minutes out, including the farm roads around Aberdeen, Moreland and Firth. Rural homes are our daily work. Give us the address when you call and we'll set a free, written estimate within a couple of business days.
