Blackfoot, Idaho
Blackfoot's downtown bungalows and their thinned-out floors
Blackfoot is the Bingham County seat, best known for the Eastern Idaho State Fair and the Idaho Potato Museum that fills the 1913 Oregon Short Line depot on North Main. The older housing clusters around that core and the Bridge Street grid: early-1900s bungalows, four-squares and brick cottages, many with original oak or fir strip floors. Those floors are the heart of our work here, and they come with a specific problem. A home that has stood a century has often been sanded two or three times already, each pass taking wood off the top. By now some of those floors sit close to the tongue, and one more aggressive sanding would cut through into the groove and ruin the board. So in Blackfoot we measure before we promise a refinish. We lift a register or a threshold, check the wear layer left above the tongue, and look at how previous crews feathered their work. When there is enough wood, a careful screen or a single fine cut and fresh finish wakes the floor up without risking it. When a floor is already too thin, we say so, and talk through lacing in salvaged boards or an engineered match instead of sanding a floor to death. Downtown kitchens and back entries, where decades of traffic and the odd leak have done their damage, are where we most often splice in new wood.
On the ground
Across Blackfoot, from Bridge Street to the fairgrounds
Blackfoot sits where the Blackfoot River meets the Snake, with I-15 on its west edge and US-91 running through as the old main route. Downtown centers on Bridge Street and North Main, where the potato museum, the historic I.O.O.F. Hall and the county buildings anchor a walkable grid of early-1900s homes. The Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds draw the east side of town every late summer. Out from the core, you move quickly into ranch homes from the 1960s onward and farm places on acreage. Our Blackfoot jobs split along those lines. In the old grid it is refinishing original oak and fir, patching boards at kitchens and back doors, and matching repairs where a wall came out. On the newer and rural side it is installs and subfloor work, including the swollen particleboard decking common after an old plumbing leak. Because Blackfoot is a short interstate run from our base, we can measure, moisture-read and hand over a written quote without the long-trip delay.

K Lee, thank you for trusting us with your home and flooring. I am glad you are happy with the floors — you were a pleasure to work for.
“Wood Flooring Idaho just finished our floors and they are beautiful! We had oak in the kitchen and wanted it extended into the dining room — their answer was “No Problem.” You absolutely cannot tell where they joined the new flooring with the old. They removed our tile entryway and replaced it with oak. Tyler is professional, particular and hardworking.”

FAQ
Blackfoot flooring questions
How do I know if my Blackfoot floor can be sanded again?
We measure before we sand. On a century-old Blackfoot home, the floor may already have been refinished two or three times, leaving little wood above the tongue. We lift a threshold or register to check the wear layer left. If there is enough, a light cut and finish is safe; if not, we will suggest lacing in boards instead. Call (844) 954-6342.
Can you match new boards to my old downtown hardwood?
Yes. Many Blackfoot homes near Bridge Street have original oak or fir we can match when a wall comes out or boards are damaged. We source the right species and width, weave new runs into the old field so seams disappear, then sand and finish the whole area together. The result blends rather than patches.
Do you handle floors over a plumbing leak in farm homes?
Yes, and the subfloor comes first. In rural Blackfoot homes an old leak often swells the particleboard decking under the finish floor. We find and stop the moisture source, replace the ruined decking, dry and read the area, then install new flooring on a sound base. Covering wet decking only buys you a bigger repair later.
