Moreland, Idaho
Moreland ranch homes and the subfloor underneath
Moreland is an unincorporated farm community spread across the irrigated ground about five miles northwest of Blackfoot. There is no tight town boundary here; people a good way out still call it Moreland, and the community grew around the People's Canal, broken ground in 1894 to carry Snake River water onto the flats. The housing reflects that farm layout: scattered homes on acreage, plus a solid run of 1970s and 1980s ranch and split-entry houses built as families settled in. Most of those ranchers went down with wall-to-wall carpet over a plywood or particleboard subfloor, and that is exactly what owners now want gone. The work in Moreland almost always starts under the carpet, not on top of it. A plywood subfloor that has flexed for forty years squeaks because the nails have backed out and the sheets have cupped at the seams. If we floated new flooring straight over that, every creak would telegraph through and the floor would feel hollow. So we pull the carpet and pad, screw the decking back down tight to the joists, plane or fill the high and low spots, and check moisture coming up from the crawlspace. Only then do we lay the new floor. For busy farm households we often steer toward waterproof LVP in entries and kitchens, with real or engineered hardwood through the living space where the mud stays out.
On the ground
Working the flats around Moreland and Riverside
Moreland spreads along the county roads northwest of Blackfoot, with Taber Road, the old Highway 26 alignment, running through the area before the route was shifted toward the desert. The Moreland School and the local ward buildings serve as the community's gathering points, and the Riverside area sits just to the southeast. This is farm country, so homes stand on acreage with shops, mudrooms and back entries that take in field dust and spring mud. That shapes the jobs we see. Owners here are usually replacing dated carpet, not refinishing antique hardwood, so our Moreland work runs to subfloor repair, carpet-to-LVP conversions and new hardwood or engineered plank. We also get water calls where a failed supply line or an overloaded washer soaked the decking and swelled the particleboard. Because Moreland is a farther run from Idaho Falls, we plan the measure and the install efficiently, read crawlspace moisture on the first visit and leave a written quote so there is no second trip just to price the job.

“Wood Flooring Idaho just finished our floors and they are beautiful! We had oak in the kitchen and wanted it extended into the dining room — their answer was “No Problem.” You absolutely cannot tell where they joined the new flooring with the old. They removed our tile entryway and replaced it with oak. Tyler is professional, particular and hardworking.”

FAQ
Moreland flooring questions
Why do you pull the carpet before quoting new floors in Moreland?
Because the subfloor decides the job. Many Moreland ranch homes have plywood or particleboard that has flexed and squeaked for decades under carpet. We screw the decking tight, flatten the seams and read crawlspace moisture before laying anything. Quoting without seeing underneath risks a hollow, creaky floor later. Call (844) 954-6342 to set a look.
Should I put hardwood or LVP in a Moreland farmhouse?
It depends on the room. For entries, mudrooms and kitchens that catch field dust and spring mud, we usually recommend waterproof LVP. For living areas and bedrooms away from the wet zones, real or engineered hardwood holds up and looks better. Many Moreland homes get a mix, and we map it room by room when we measure.
